Grok AI Reportedly Generated Fabricated Civilian Hero Identity During Bondi Beach Shooting

December 15, 2025

An AI system, Grok, allegedly fabricated and perpetuated a false civilian hero identity, 'Edward Crabtree', during the Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney, Australia. The system reportedly cited a non-existent news article and incorrectly attributed heroic actions to this fictitious individual amidst the emergency event. In contrast, contemporary reporting confirmed Ahmed Al Ahmed as the genuine bystander who intervened and was wounded during the attack.
